Terms & conditions
Terms & Conditions: Covid-19 (Coronavirus)
This document is in addition to the existing terms and conditions and specifically relates to Covid-19 (Coronavirus).
Background
These additional terms and conditions have been introduced to minimise the health risks of contracting or transmitting Covid-19 and have been based on Government and driving industry guidelines for safe operating procedures in vehicles.
Being inside a small space with another person, closer than one metre is higher risk than most jobs. The government recognise this and have webpages listed below.
Please try and take time to read them and any more that maybe appropriate.. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance https://www.gov.uk/guidance/working-safely-during-coronavirus-covid-19/vehicles
No student will be allowed to drive if showing any of the three symptoms listed on the official Government website https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus and amended from time to time.
There is also a symptom checker at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/symptoms/
The most important symptoms of COVID-19 are the recent onset of any of the following:
1. a new continuous cough, meaning coughing a lot for more than an hour or experiencing 3 or more episodes of coughing in a day
2. a high temperature
3. a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)”
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
It is important that being in a closed environment, all efforts are made to reduce contracting and transmission of Covid-19. Whilst there is some disagreement on the scientific evidence for different types of PPE and its actual benefits , No Fears driving school will be adopting practices based on Government and industry guidelines. For this reason, students will be requested to:
1. Wash hands for at least 20 seconds before coming out to a lesson.
2. To provide and wear suitable disposable gloves except where there are safety or medical reason for not doing so. Alternatively, you may
bring hand sanitiser with an alcohol level of not less than 70%
3. To provide and wear a suitable face covering or face-mask except where there are safety or medical reasons for not doing so.
4. To wear clothes that cover arms and legs.
5. Visors are not to be worn as this would be unsafe if an airbag deployed.
Where a student is unable to provide PPE, the student can be provided with appropriate PPE at an additional cost of £2.50
Where a student is unwilling to use appropriate PPE without a safety or medical reason the instructor has the right to terminate the lesson and apply the lesson charge.
Lesson Payment
Where possible, payment for lessons should be made online by bank transfer and account details are available on request. However, cash will be accepted if this is more appropriate for a student.
Lesson Cancellations
Normally, the student and instructor should provide 48 hours’ notice of any lesson being cancelled. However, due to the unusual circumstances, this requirement is waived.
Enhanced Car Cleaning Procedures.
Before and after each lesson, the instructor will clean the car with an anti-viral and anti-bacterial spray. Cleaning materials, such as wipes, will be disposed of safely in sealed bags.
24 Hours Before the Lesson
The student will be emailed a copy of the medical questionnaire for completion. The questionnaire must be completed honestly and where the student is 18 year or older, the student will sign the declaration, but where the student is under 18, a parent or guardian will sign the declaration.
If the student fails the questionnaire, the student should immediately contact the instructor to cancel the lesson.
Pre-Lesson
The student will be asked to complete an eyesight test, reading a standard number plate at a distance of 20.5m.
Before entering the car, the student will be asked to provide the medical questionnaire for review.
The student’s temperature will be check using a non-contact method.
The student will be asked to wear PPE as specified above.
The student will bring only essential items to the lesson, such as study pack, pen, a drink, glasses or similar. Please avoid bringing unnecessary items as these may need to be placed in the boot of the car.
During The Lesson
If either the student or instructor show Covid-19 symptoms during the lesson, the lesson will be terminated as soon as possible. The learner will be taken home by the most direct route. Both the instructor and learner will then follow current Government self-isolation guidelines listed on www.gov.uk
The instructor and student will sit facing forward and side by side as much as possible, except where it is necessary for making observations beyond the car, or where the instructor needs to monitor the student’s actions.
Ventilation should be maximised, primarily using open windows. Where this is not possible due to weather conditions or excessive road-noise, the air-con may be used if essential.
Where a student wears glasses and the glasses begin to “fog”, the student should discuss this with the instructor as this could compromise safety and if appropriate, the face-mask may be removed.
Where the face-masks or face-coverings are interfering with clear communication, the PPE should be removed for the over-riding safety of clear instruction.
Post-Lesson
The student should remove their PPE safely and dispose of all materials safely.
The student, once indoor, should either wash or use hand sanitiser in accordance with the Government guidelines.
If the student shows any symptoms of Covid-19, the student must contact the instructor immediately and follow the Government guidelines on self-isolation as detailed at the start of this document

The instructor reserves the right to cancel a lesson at short notice if it is suspected that the pupil may be unfit to drive due to the effects of alcohol, drugs (prescribed or otherwise) or any other condition that would cause his/her driving to be illegal. In such circumstances the lesson fee will be payable. Your instructor reserves the right to postpone lessons in certain circumstances i.e. dangerous weather conditions, mechanical breakdown or illness. In the event of postponement, fees paid in advance will be carried forward.
DRIVING LICENCES & FITNESS TO DRIVE
You must hold a current, valid driving licence, provisional, full or international and produce it on your first training session. You must be fit to drive with regard to legal and medical requirements.
DRIVING TESTS
The instructor reserves the right to withdraw their car for tests without notice should the pupil prove not to be of a test standard. While your instructor will make every effort to ensure that the vehicle supplied for test will be fully road worthy and comply with all legal requirements at the start of the test, he/she cannot be held responsible for vehicle failure that occurs during the test and is not liable for consequential loss. Your instructor cannot be held responsible for test appointments cancelled by the DSA due to bad weather, sickness, staff shortages or other reasons. Such cancellations are beyond the control of your instructor and therefore the lesson fee and ‘use of car’ fee for the booked period will be charged. Your instructor will advise you about claiming compensation from the DSA.
TRAINING LOCATION
All sessions will start and finish at the same location unless alternative arrangements are made in advance. The instructor will determine a location for practical lessons which ensures both the pupil’s and public safety, this means that the instructor may need to drive the pupil to and from the lesson location; this journey time forms part of the lesson as paid for.
